About

Not too many people have clicked to look at my about page but I might as well slap a little biographical information up here.

The reason this page features so many ocean-based features is because I have a bachelors in marine and freshwater biology and a masters in marine science and technology. I am passionate about the ocean – amazed by it’s vastness, strangeness, and how much we have still to learn about its watery depths.

I also am really on fire about the arts and really adventurous forms and products of creativity. Music is a life blood sort of endeavor for me, I’ve been in various incarnations of cover bands in college and have recently been getting back into the open mic scene. I enjoy good music and good company and am glad when the two combine.

The blog stems out of my interest in science journalism, creative writing in general, and the desire to share good things with interested people.

  1. Hello, I was just wondering where you got the blue whale photo: https://neoncstar.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/bluewhale.jpg as I am looking for the rights from the original owner to acquire. Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

Hey there, to be honest I’m not sure of the origins for this photo (I even tried to do a reverse image search – http://www.tineye.com/). I have a statement somewhere on my website indicating I will take anything down that causes any problems for anyone in terms of copyright issues, etc. From what I can tell, most of the places it’s posted when you search google also don’t have original photo credits. I also had to find some photos recently for an article I wrote on right whales and the copepods they eat but I was lucky enough to have photos from a research cruise I was part of and checked in with a researcher I knew for permission. I would suggest starting with NOAA, or NMFS (National Marine Fisheries), or some of the cetacean organizations… Hope that helps.
